Ruen Mallika is proud receive the Michelin Guide Bangkok 2018’s Bib Gourmand recognition!
Ruen Mallika was established in 2002 when Professor (“Ajarn”) Mallika came across an ancient, two-story Thai villa made of teak that was built back in 1807, during the Rattanokosin Era of Thailand. This villa was located in Sukhumvit 22, right in the heart of downtown Bangkok. Upon seeing this villa, Ajarn Mallika fell in love with its history and its aesthetics. At a personal level, she has a conviction in maintaining the Thai heritage into the next generation, so she took it upon herself to purchase this real estate gem and make slight modifications and turn it into a Thai restaurant. Every single element inside Ruen Mallika is a semblance of Thai history from the interior decoration to the crockery. Obviously, each of the 100+ menu is authentically Thai, flavored with an intense taste that is unlike any other, using the finest ingredients without any preservatives added. Each dish is adorned with beautifully hand-carved fruits and vegetables onto the emerald-green Siladon ceramic from Northern Thailand. The dining experience is supported with exquisite service from the staff who are dressed in traditional Thai “sarong” made of silk, made from hand-woven cotton. Ruen Mallika recently introduced the “Finger Dining Menu” to introduce customers to the traditional Thai way of eating, using your bare hands. In the past, Thai families would gather around in a circle when having dinner, to strengthen relations during their meals, without the use of utensils. The goal of the “Finger Dining Menu” is another exhibition of Thai culture that Ajarn Mallika wishes to introduce and upkeep to the future generations.
